Flower Pipe꽃피리
「꽃피리」는 커다란 하얀 꽃 한 송이를 피리처럼 입에 대고 하늘을 향해 부는 소녀를 담은 작품입니다. 분홍빛 원피스에 노란 신발을 신은 아이는 고개를 한껏 젖히고, 한 손으로는 꽃대를 쥔 채 다른 손을 허공에 띄웠습니다.
볼에 바람을 가득 모은 듯한 얼굴과 살짝 들린 발끝에서 온 마음을 다해 무언가를 불어 보내는 몸짓이 느껴집니다. 꽃피리에서는 소리가 나지 않지만, 작품 앞에 서면 어디선가 맑은 선율이 들려오는 것만 같습니다.

The flower, bloomed larger than the child herself, is built from dakjongi layered sheet by sheet. Petals with naturally lifting edges, yellow stamens and the crumpled texture of her dress come together to create the light, clear air of a spring day.
The moment a child's small breath becomes petals and spreads into the world. The work speaks of a heart that reaches its destination even unheard — the wishes we once blew into the sky as children.

As children we used to make pipes from a single blade of grass or a flower. Even when no proper sound came out, we puffed our cheeks fit to burst and blew, believing the sound would reach the ends of the sky.
The flower pipe in this work makes no sound either. But the child doesn't mind. She believes her small breath will become petals, knock on closed windows, and call in a hesitant spring.
When we grow up, chased by our days, we forget songs like that. So I thought we sometimes need a moment to breathe out quietly, like a single white flower.
