Embracing Spring봄을 안고
「봄을 안고」는 봄날 시리즈의 문을 연 작품입니다. 같은 나무 액자 속 황토빛 하늘에는 하얀 꽃잎들이 두 덩이 구름처럼 모여 있고, 그중 몇 장은 바람을 타고 하나둘 흩어져 내려옵니다. 그 아래 빨간 원피스에 하얀 블라우스를 입은 여자아이가 고개를 한껏 젖힌 채 꽃잎을 올려다봅니다.
아이의 두 팔은 가슴께에 무언가를 소중히 끌어안고 있습니다. 품 안에는 작은 파랑새 한 마리가 살포시 깃들어 있습니다. 멀리 흩날리는 꽃잎에 마음을 빼앗긴 듯 보이지만, 아이의 두 팔은 품 안의 작은 온기를 놓치지 않으려는 듯 단단히 모여 있습니다.
파랑새는 오래전부터 행복을 상징해 왔습니다. 멀리서 찾아 헤맸지만 사실은 가장 가까이에 있었다는 동화 속 파랑새처럼, 작품은 떠나가는 봄을 바라보면서도 가장 소중한 것은 이미 내 품 안에 있다고 조용히 이야기합니다.
2022년에 태어난 이 작품에서 시작된 봄날의 이야기는 이후 「개나리 필 무렵」, 「꽃비 나리는 날」, 「첫사랑의 설렘」으로 이어졌습니다. 봄이 지고 꽃잎이 흩어져도, 품에 안은 작은 봄은 지지 않습니다.
Embracing Spring is the work that opened the Spring series. In the ochre sky inside the same wooden frame, white petals gather like two small clouds, and a few of them drift down one by one on the wind. Below, a girl in a red dress and white blouse tips her head all the way back to look up at them.
Her arms are holding something precious against her chest: a small bluebird nestled in her embrace. She seems captivated by the petals scattering far away, yet her arms stay firmly closed, as if determined not to let go of the little warmth she holds.
The bluebird has long been a symbol of happiness. Like the bluebird in the fairy tale — searched for far and wide, yet closest of all — this work quietly says that even as we watch spring go, what matters most is already in our arms.

꽃잎이 흩날리는 하늘을 올려다보는 아이를 만들고 싶었습니다. 그리고 그 아이의 품에 작은 파랑새 한 마리를 안겨 주었습니다.
봄은 늘 너무 빨리 지나갑니다. 손을 뻗으면 닿을 것 같은 꽃잎들도 바람 한 줄기에 금세 흩어져 버리지요. 떠나는 봄을 붙잡을 수는 없지만, 그 봄의 가장 작은 한 조각은 품에 안을 수 있다고 생각했습니다.
이 작품을 만든 뒤로 봄날의 아이들이 하나둘 더 찾아왔습니다. 개나리 핀 들길의 아이, 꽃비를 맞는 아이, 첫사랑에 두근거리는 아이. 모두 이 작은 파랑새를 안은 아이에게서 시작된 이야기입니다.
행복을 찾아 멀리 떠나는 날이 오더라도 기억해 주세요. 처음부터 그것은 우리 품 안에 있었다는 것을요.
I wanted to make a child looking up at a sky full of drifting petals. And I placed a small bluebird in her arms.
Spring always passes too quickly. Petals that seem close enough to touch scatter with a single breath of wind. We cannot hold on to a passing spring, but I thought we could hold its smallest piece in our arms.
After I made this work, more children of spring came to me, one by one: the child on the forsythia path, the child in the rain of blossoms, the child flushed with first love. All of their stories began with this child holding a little bluebird.
Even if the day comes when you set off far away in search of happiness, please remember: it was in our arms from the very beginning.
